the girl with a hat

If I was studying psychology I would already know what I would write about in my dissertation. There's definitely something about hats..
Yesterday was a good day. I got at least three flies with one hit: got a chance to work for a good cause, listen to some really good music and got some schoolwork done. all that in one night. Oxjam Aberdeen Takeover took place yesterday in 4 different venues. I was campaigning at the Drummonds. I gave people awesome "FAIR DEAL" knuckle tattoos and got them to sign the petition. It was a slow start, but as it got closer to midnight it picked up and on the whole I'd say it was a success. I'd never done this kind of campaigning before so it was a good experience. Bonus of this was that I got see some pretty interesting acts. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of a guy who only had his guitar to accompany him on stage. He was fun and upbeat. But the band that really blew me away was Kashmir Red(http://www.myspace.com/kashmirred). As far as I'm concerned they have the whole package. You won't get the picture of what they're like from their myspace. Their live is so much better. To become successful they need good people to take care of them. That's probably the biggest problem that bands have. You might have everything, but if people don't see or listen to you then you won't get far. Though, In UK the atmosphere seems to be more welcoming for the new bands to start off, because at least music has a proper business here. While in Estonia there aren't that many places for new bands to show what they've got. However recent years have shown the birth to some really cool events: Tallinn Music Week is the most successful one in my opinion. But that's only because the people behind it truly care about what they do.
Another band I liked was Weather Barn(http://www.myspace.com/weatherbarn). Really different from Kashmir Red who reminded me a bit of Kasabian. WB has more surfing flavour and naive sound, but in a good way.
Another highlights of the week: waking up on Wednesday morning and seeing the snow falling down from sky..it was beautiful..equally beautiful was last night as the sky was so clear you could see so many stars shining upon you..yes, the so called little things do count ;)

I honestly didn't think she is such a good singer. Also check out Biffy Clyro's version of "Love Sex Magic"..it's so gooood! ;)

NB! You don't need to look for fun when you are fun

Cheerio, dear chicas and chicos!

the hardest part...

..of recent skype-marathon was hearing my dearest 4-year-old niece say 'Come back!'..seriously, that's tough..and then I realised that by the time I graduate she's already a schoolgirl!..heavy stuff
so yes, skype. thank god for skype! or actually, thanks to those ESTONIANS who invented skype ;) it's a brilliant way to stay in touch with your loved ones who live far away. So I can still keep my eye on Sandra-Man and Liverpool's-Liina and their adventures ;)(I miss you, guys!)

here's a jolly tune for you to enjoy:

I'm off to bed now, because though school's over for this week I still have two long days at work after what I'm going to sleep at least till midday on Sunday.

Be cool!

Suicidal Smoothies "Drink To Death"

..this is imaginary all-girl punk band that me and my workmates came up with. don't you just love stream of consciousness!
Talking about stream of consciousness, I had a lecture where we had to come up with ideas/solutions for different problems/events. I'd say my group was the most creative one, because for finding a concept for black tie christmas party we started off with a dialect book and finished with James Bond and casino. Nae bad!
So, so far, uni is goooood! Though, I can already see some assignment deadlines on the horizon. That's all right. I have probably never said it before, but this time I really like to study. Geez! I see myself diving into books and turning into a nerd..in a good way. there can't be any real nerds on this course because we also have a chance to put the theory into practice (that's also one of the main reasons why I chose RGU). I honestly feel that this time I'm more prepared and ready for uni. Well for sure I'm a bit older and smarter than I was after finishing high school, but obviously there's still loads to learn. So the next 4 years should be exciting ;)
We haven't yet had a night out with our course, but hopefully there's something coming anytime soon.
"The Hurts" virus is spreading around.. I really like how everybody keeps falling in love with them. but they're totally worth it!

It's John Lennon's 70th Birthday today. Happy Birthday, dear John!

Stay warm and positive!

Strike a pose!

Here I am again. I'm rubbish. I know. Sorry. It's not easy to write this blog, when there's loads of things going on.
Sooo....I've met my coursemates, who at first glance look completely normal and interesting people..yes really! we've had a couple of ice-breaking sessions, but there's still a long way to go until we all recognise and know each other. I can tell you that I'm not the only "foreigner" on the course: there are people from Germany, France, Luxemburg, Poland. Oh, and did I mentioned that there's only one guy on the course and the rest are girls..yup. true. when we had our group photo taken outside Aberdeen Business School I felt kind of sorry for that guy: girls (including me of course) were all giggling and chatting like baby birds who are waiting to be fed. He must have thought how the hell did he got into this. So I guess we (girls) have to be careful that we don't scare him away.
First week of lectures is over. So far so good...actually really good. I'm getting quite excited about this course ;) Lecturers know what they're talking about and I like that the atmosphere is not overly strict and formal. Lecturers are not trying to build a wall between them and the students. quite the opposite. This week I'm having tutorials too. so we'll see how they go.
Work's been good.
My pink umbrella died a few days ago. It got serious fractures when I was trying to get home during one lunchtime, because the weather was just horrible. all my clothes were completely soaked. No wonder a few people looked at me weirdly: I looked like I had taken a shower without removing my clothes....and the next day was so nice: sunshine and blue skies. lately this seems to be the pattern: sunny day-rainy day-sunny day etc
Today I bought myself a pair of heels. Those who know me are probably making suprised faces. :) yup. obviously they're not like killer stilettos but still cute, add a few inches and what is more, it was a bargain: I got them for £6.40 (original price was £18). good deal, I'd say ;)
What else have I done recently? Going to nights out with my flatmates, workmates and other mates. :)
To be honest, I kind of ignored the freshers week. Firstly, because I was working. Secondly, this is my second time being to uni and I can say I've already been there, done that. Nevertheless, freshers week made me quite nostalgic and brought back some good memories.

I can totally sing like Bonnie Tyler, because dancing/singing cheesy tunes last night cost me my voice. hey-hou! I'm not complaining, I would like have a voice of a middle aged woman who smokes loads of cigarettes per day. As I'm not into smoking I enjoy the moments I have when my voice's on holiday :)

Madonna's 'Vogue' doesn't always ring a bell.. how's that even possible?!

See you later senjoores & senjoritas!

I AM SORRY!!
really, truly, madly, deeply..
but I do have a good reason for being away for such a long time: work. yes indeed. Tick. I'm working in a cafe-bar at the theatre. pretty cool, I'd say ;) and last week I worked over 35 hours, so I was pretty tired when I got home and couldn't get into blog writing mood. but here I am now. I'm trying to be more consistent with this blog.
So what has happened since my last blog update? I have a job now as you already know. I was on my way to Nero's to hand in my last CV. but hey-hou! walked past the theatre and saw a "Staff wanted" sign. it wasn't going to hurt to just go in and ask more about this vacancy. had a nice chat with the manager. trial day the next day. and here I am: this week I worked full-time. good stuff. People seem nice and friendly.
A few days ago I went to see my university campus in Garthdee. It's about 30 minutes ride by bus. but it's well worth it! I absolutely fell in love: the views to the city and the nature around the campus... sooo beautiful!! I can easily imagine myself having a rest on the grass with a view to the river Dee. mmm! :)
Weather's been way too windy for me. not used to it..(yet). so on my day off I spent most of the time drinking ginger-lemon tee.
Now is time to recommend some movies to you all.
'Unthinkable' - the name says it all. good acting (Samuel L. Jackson, Carrie-Anne Moss, Michael Sheen).
'Going The Distance' - romantic comedy is a genre that offers you a simple entertainment and usually nothing more. well, this movie offered some really good music. and I liked the story, too. Drew Barrymore and Justin Long, good job! :)

Next week, on Tuesday I am going to meet my coursemates and learn more about the course (timetable, exams etc).

Take care!!

:)

It's like S..O..L..O

Jeah! Hello cyberworld!! It's been a while..
We now have internet in the house..permanently. Looking forward to Skype-date with my friends and family :)
I've got news for you: I've found a place to live. and guess what I don't even have to move my stuff. the thing is I'm still going to stay at Marta's place. Nice.
So..Home..tick!
two more "ticks" to go: Work and School.
Today I applied to Primark. They sure take things seriously. I can't recall the last time I had to solve proper mathematical problems...probably in high school. all these logical and arithmetical problems were actually kind of cool. I enjoyed it. Will they give me job for that? We'll see.
It's really windy over here. like really! Though wind has some good points.. I mean, why do you pay for botox if you can just walk against wind and get rid of those wrinkles. good idea, ay ;)

Sweet dreams :)

Yes Woman?!

So...Tuesday was a one of those days..
Firstly, I used McGyver skills to fix my umbrella. and I think I fixed it..with a hammer..oh yes. Going to test it out as soon as there's some rain (too see if that trouble was all worth it, the umbrella cost £1...).
Secondly, a warning for you guys out there doing your laundry: don't leave your stuff to soak too long. I accidentally bleached my jacket. hey-hou!Thirdly, I met this guy, who made Tombraider the computer game. According to him, his name is even in the closing credits. and he hates Steven Seagal (mm..who doesn't?). Anyway, that's what you get, when you go to the beach sooth your mind: instead you get an interesting conversation.
Yesterday made me feel like the main character of "Yes Man". Should I call myself a Yes Woman from now on?..

first photo evidence of me in Aberdeen ;)
